Flowers have the power to heal. Indian Flower Therapy (not to be confused with Aromatherapy) is a unique form of complementary medicine that uses these healing powers present in Indian flowers to heal not just the body, but also the mind. This holistic healing is brought about with the help of Indian Flower Essences or Formulae (a combination of flower essences) that contain the revitalising, healing energy of flowers. They work as catalysts, empowering you to bring about a change within yourself, correct emotional imbalance and overcome your fears.

Ancient Sanskrit scholars were familiar with the therapeutic properties of flowers and named them appropriately. Ashoka, for instance, means ‘the tree without sorrow,’ and its drops help in lessening grief.

A timeless tradition followed in the temples of India is that of giving devotees ‘sacred’ water in which flower petals have been immersed. That is probably the oldest form of Flower Therapy practiced in India.

The credit for formulating Flower Remedies goes to the British physician, Dr. Edward Bach. In the 1930’s this Harley Street Physician gave up a flourishing practice to devote his life to this new system of healing. To this day, Bach Flower Remedies are renowned all over the world.

The preparation process involves drawing from the revitalising, healing energies and vibrations present in Indian flowers. To prepare a remedy, special prayers are offered to the flowering tree. Then, in the presence of sunlight or moonlight, the pure, healing energies from the flowers are tapped and transferred to water. The process ends with a final thanksgiving prayer. These specially energized waters are the final products – a comforting remedy for many ills.

Using a dropper, squirt three drops of the flower remedy over the tongue, preferably in the morning. The remedy may be taken thrice a day. In acute cases, add seven drops of the remedy to a cup of water and take a sip every fifteen-thirty minutes. Never administer the remedy orally to an unconscious patient. In such cases, local application is advisable, though not on open cuts or wounds. Flower Remedies are also effective when added to the bath water or used externally in compresses, packs, creams, lotions, ointments, oils, etc. They may also be applied on acupressure points.

Sometimes, you may need to address more than one emotional need simultaneously. For instance, you could be suffering from stress due to insecurity and over-ambition. In such a situation, it is not only safe, but also highly beneficial to use a combination of essences (a formula), or an essence along with a formula for environmental stress.
